The Opera House Table Aug 2026

The first dedicated exhibition of furniture by artist Mike Hewson, revealing a new body of work that extends his ongoing exploration of material histories, architectural memory and the transformation of overlooked elements. Continuing Hewson’s commitment to the inventive reuse of materials, The Opera House Table centres on a series of new works that transform a rare collection of pre-cast panels dating to the late 1960s into sleek, robust dining tables. Preserving the character and history of these architectural fragments, each piece balances permanence with refinement, allowing the material’s past to remain embedded within its renewed purpose. Presented alongside bespoke seats combining found and fabricated components, the exhibition reveals Hewson’s approach to furniture as sculpturally rich forms that invite use while carrying histories of materials, architecture and place. Through considered composition and careful adaptation, the collection explores how objects can hold memory, function and new meanings, presenting furniture as both a practical presence and a reflection of the environments from which it emerges. A lasting dialogue between histories.
